Flute Lessons – available on site (Saturdays and weekdays) for students who are not currently studying weekly with one of Pittsburgh’s wonderful, numerous teachers. Private lesson calendars, fees, and policies are set by the INDEPENDENT teacher.

Piano Lessons – available on site (Saturdays) for flutists who plan to major or minor in music at the college level. Also available for siblings. Tuition, policies and calendar are determined by the INDEPENDENT teacher.

Chamber Ensembles – Flutists are placed into a small chamber ensembles for a weekly coaching and public performances. Held weekly from 9:30 – 10:15. Flute Academy students may also elect to play in small groups of their own without formal coachings, however, you must register for a room.

Music Theory Beginning through Advanced – Sections for beginners through advanced placement. Offered each semester and includes ear training. Designed for flutists to prepare for college auditions and placement exams. Held weekly from 10:15 – 11:00.

Flutations – A large, high-energy flute choir for high school students. Weekly rehearsals from 11:00 – 12:00. Public performances and semester-end concerts. Bass and Alto flutes provided. Concert attire: All black plus Flute Academy Shirt (order during registration). Bring a MUSIC STAND! Busy marching schedule? The Flute Academy will work around it. JOIN US! Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year. Past performances include: with Fiddlesticks and the Pittsburgh Symphony, world premier piece with Sir James Galway and the PSO for the PSO 2006 opening concert, National Flute Association convention Showcase Concert in 2006.

Flute Loops – Middle School (grades 4-8) flute choir. No audition necessary. Two years playing experience recommended. Weekly rehearsals on Saturdays from 11:15 - 12:00. Concert attire: All Black plus Flute Academy Shirt (order during registration). Bring a MUSIC STAND! Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year. Past performances include: Mozart Room at Heinz Hall, First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, and the Cultural District on PSO opening night 2006.

The City Flutes – This highly skilled adult flute choir plays challenging repertoire (5 years of private study is the recommended minimum) and meets 5 or 6 times per semester from 10:45 – 12:15. This is a friendly, non-threatening way to continue flute playing for life! Reasonable tuition rates encourage members to stay for years. The City Flutes perform frequently in interesting venues. Bring a MUSIC STAND. Concert attire determined before each performance (includes all Black plus Flute Academy Shirt (order during registration). Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year. Past performances include: Heinz Hall lobby performing Jennifer Higdon’s (PSO composer in residence) works before a PSO concert, on the Red Carpet in front of Heinz Hall on Sir Galway night-PSO opening concert 2006, National Flute Association convention Showcase Concert in 2006 Tuesday Musical Solo Recital Series 2007.
