Flute Lessons –available on site (Saturdays and weekdays) for students who are not currently studying weekly with one of Pittsburgh’s wonderful, numerous teachers. Private lesson calendars, fees, and policies are set by the INDEPENDENT teacher.

Piano Lessons –available on site (Saturdays) for flutists who plan to major or minor in music at the college level. Also available for siblings. Tuition, policies and calendar are determined by the INDEPENDENT teacher. Beginning August 27, 2011 (2nd semester: January 7, 2012).

Chamber Ensembles – Flutists are placed into a small chamber ensemble for coaching and public performances. Held weekly by appointment. Flute Academy students may also elect to play in small groups on their own without formal coaching. However, you must register for a room.

Music Theory Beginning through Advanced –Sections for beginners through advanced placement, offered each semester and includes ear training. Designed for any musically literate student to prepare for college auditions and placement exams. Held weekly if enough students register.

Flutations – A large, high-energy flute choir for high school students with weekly rehearsals from 11:00 – 12:00, public performances, and semester-end concerts. Bass, Alto, and Contrabass flutes provided. Concert attire: All black plus Flute Academy Shirt (order during registration). Bring a MUSIC STAND! Busy marching schedule? The Flute Academy will work around it. JOIN US! Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year. Past performances include: Fiddlesticks and the Pittsburgh Symphony, world premier piece with Sir James Galway and the PSO for the PSO 2006 opening concert, National Flute Association convention Showcase Concert in 2006 and the NFA convention in NYC in August 2009. We will play in Heinz Hall lobby on October 28-29 prior to the Galway, PSO concerts. December 10: HOLIDAY CONCERTS at 11:00 a.m. AND 7:00 p.m.; SPRING CONCERT: March 26.

Flute Loops – Middle School (grades 4-8) flute choir. No audition necessary. Two years playing experience recommended. Weekly rehearsals are on Saturdays from 11:00 – 12:00. Concert attire: All Black plus Flute Academy Shirt (order during registration). Bring a MUSIC STAND! Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year. Past performances include: Mozart Room at Heinz Hall, First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, and the Cultural District on PSO opening night 2006, and the NFA convention in NYC in August 2009, PSO Fiddlesticks in 2010, and we will play in Heinz Hall lobby on October 28-29 prior to the Galway, PSO concerts. December 10: HOLIDAY CONCERTS at 11:00 a.m. AND 7:00 p.m.; SPRING CONCERT: March 26.

The City Flutes – This highly skilled, friendly adult flute choir plays challenging repertoire (5 years of private study is the recommended minimum) and meets 6 – 7 times per semester on Saturdays from 10:45 – 12:30. Reasonable tuition rates encourage members to stay for years. Bring a MUSIC STAND. Concert attire is determined before each performance (includes all black and/or Flute Academy Shirt. Past performances include: on the Red Carpet in front of Heinz Hall - PSO opening concert 2006, National Flute Association convention Showcase Concert in 2006, Tuesday Musical Solo Recital series 2008, NFA convention in NYC in August 2009.

City Flutes 2011- 2012 rehearsal dates:

Fall Term: September 24, October 8, 22, 29, November 5, 19, December 3 (dress). December 10: HOLIDAY CONCERTS at 11:00 a.m. AND 7:00 p.m.

Winter term: January 14, 28, February 11, 25, March 10, 17 (dress). SPRING CONCERT: March 26. Field Trips and guest artists will be announced throughout the year.
