Flute Academy News!
- FA Director Wendy Webb Kumer has been nominated for the Office of President (soon to be re-titled "Chairman of the Board") of the National Flute Association. Elections will be held this summer, August, 2007.
- FA Flute Faculty member Pamela Murchison has been awarded a fellowship to begin her doctoral studies in music at West Virginia University in the fall of 2007. She will be studying with Dr. Francesca Arnone and teaching in the music theory department. Pam earned a Master of the Arts degree in flute performance from Youngstown State University in May, 2007.
- FA Flute Faculty member Daniel Parasky earned a Master of the Arts degree in music education from Boston University in May, 2007.
- FA Piano Faculty member, Christopher Ruth, will be conducting musicological research in Europe this summer as he continues his work on his doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh.
- Alysha Suley recently graduated from Penn Hills High School and received a large talent based scholarship to attend Berklee School of Music in Boston in the fall of 2007.
- Sean Curtis recently graduated from Bethel Park High School and will be attending Case Western Reserve in Cleveland in the fall of 2007 majoring in electrical engineering.
- Caitlin Powell recently graduated from North Catholic High School and will be attending Case Western Reserve in Cleveland in the fall of 2007 majoring in biomedical engineering.
- Katie Layendecker recently graduated from West Mifflin High School and will be attending Penn State University in the fall of 2007 as a psychology major.
- Andrea Donohoe was chosen as drum major for Thomas Jefferson High School band for 2007-2008.
- Chelsea Debonis, Courtney Martin, Amy Hannequin and Junnae Zupsic have completed their freshman year at Duquesne University.
Flute Academy Alumni News!
- Cassandra Rondinelli graduated from Slippery Rock University in May 2007 and will be attending the University of Miami, FL in the fall to work on a Master of the Arts in flute performance degree.
- Kimmy Douglass recently returned from a tour of the world during a “semester at sea” program.
- T. J. Wible won second place in the James Papoutsakis Competition in Boston as a sophomore at New England Conservatory. He was in Pittsburgh in May to perform in the winners recital of the Tuesday Musical Club scholarship recipients.
- Diana Jordan completed her freshman year at Lawrence University in Wisconsin and has declared flute performance as her major (she went in as a double major in piano and flute).
- Anne Knorr will be attending college in Oregon at Marylhurst University in the fall of 2007 as a music therapy major.
- Samantha Schieck completed her freshman year at Butler University in Indianapolis as a music education, flute major.
